6. Biography of Prof. Dr. Ihsan Numanoglu (1923- 30.04.2010) and Establishment of Modern Pediatric Surgery in Turkey (June 14, 1961)
Şerefittin Canda
doi: 10.5505/TJHS.2025.92408  Pages 218 - 235
Purpose: One of the important public health problems of Turkey is the subject of illnesses in the field of pediatric surgery and especially children with congenital anomalies and malformations (Externally visible: Cleft lip and cleft palate, urinary, ear, hand and foot anomalies) (Externally invisible: Heart defects, kidney, urinary, digestive system anomalies).
The importance of this issue has been known since the time of Amasian Surgeon Serafettin Sabuncuoglu (1385–1468). Previously, in Turkey, the Pediatric Surgery Clinic was included in the General Surgery and Orthopedic Clinic.
For this reason, it took time for the pediatric surgery to be an independent department.
Our aim is to present the short biography of İhsan Numanoğlu, the founder of Contemporary Pediatric Surgery in Turkey. In addition, to examine his scientific contributions to Turkish medicine and to introduce new generations.
Material, Method: In the light of the information obtained by scanning written sources, Prof. Dr. İhsan Numanoğlu's short resume, scientific studies and the establishment of the Department of Pediatric Surgery in Turkey were examined in the historical process.
Conclusion: Today, we step into the second 100th year of the Republic, Prof. Dr. Dr. İhsan Numanoğlu is seen to play an important role in scientific and leadership in the establishment of the contemporary pediatric surgery department in Turkey.
Thus, Prof.Dr. Dr. İhsan Numanoğlu; He has been among our valuable scientists raised by Ege University and has also passed into the history of Turkish Medicine.

CASE REPORT
7. Restoring Functionality in Severe Hip Deformities: Advanced Surgical Technique for Legg–Calvé–Perthes Disease Sequelae
Burak Duymaz, Onur Hapa
doi: 10.5505/TJHS.2025.08208  Pages 236 - 244
Introduction:
This case study examines a specialized surgical intervention for an 18-year-old female patient with severe hip pain and impingement issues. These complications arise from deformities associated with her unilateral Legg-Calvé-Perthes disease. This condition severely affects hip function. The residual deformities from Legg–Calvé–Perthes disease (LCPD) are acknowledged for exacerbating joint degeneration and increasing symptomatic distress, particularly in adolescents and young adults. Therefore, comprehending the complex relationship between these deformities and their clinical implications is crucial for formulating effective treatment approaches to alleviate physical discomfort and enhance quality of life and function. These deformities present biomechanical and biological challenges that require tailored surgical interventions to restore joint function and reduce pain.
Methods:
This study presents the case of an 18-year-old female patient with severe intra- and extra-articular impingement due to unilateral LCPD. A comprehensive surgical approach was employed, including hip dislocation, mosaicplasty with autografts, femoral head-neck osteochondroplasty and labral repair. Postoperative progress was monitored through clinical evaluations, radiographs, and Harris Hip Scores.
Results:
Post-surgery, the patient demonstrated significant improvements in pain levels, hip range of motion, and functionality, with a Harris Hip Score increase from 62 preoperatively to 76 at two years postoperatively. Radiographic assessments confirmed the restoration of joint congruence, femoral head sphericity, and healing of osteochondral lesions.
Conclusions:
This case highlights the efficacy of tailored hip preservation surgeries in managing complex residual deformities of LCPD. The report explores the details of the surgical methods used, the reasoning for the selected techniques, and the postoperative results, offering essential perspectives on managing comparable cases in the future. The surgical approach improves medium-term functionality and provides a foundation for preserving long-term joint health, reducing the risk of early degenerative arthritis. Future strategies addressing residual acetabular dysplasia could further enhance outcomes.

8. Pneumoscrotum As A Complication After Hip Arthroscopy: A Case Report

doi: 10.5505/TJHS.2025.92486  Pages 245 - 248
Pneumoscrotum is a very rare condition that results in swelling of the scrotum, whose aetiology can be attributed to air collection from the lungs or retroperitoneal structures, surgical interventions and gas-producing infectious organisms. We are reporting a case of pneumoscrotum that developed in a 28-year-old male patient after undergoing hip arthroscopy. 5 days after the hip arthroscopy, the patient was admitted following swelling in the left scrotum. Air was detected in the retroperitoneum, left anterior abdominal wall, left groin, and left scrotum. The patient was diagnosed with a left pneumoscrotum. This is the only reported pneumoscrotum reported in literature seen after hip arthroscopy.
